About us

The Valentina Story
Valentina was named after the daughter of one of the founding families.
The Zoccolas and the Arcaris originated in Monte Cassino, a rocky hill about 130 km (80 miles) southeast of Rome, approximately 2 km to the west of the town of Cassino (the Roman Casinum having been on the hill) and 520 m altitude.
St. Benedict of Nursia established his first monastery, the source of the Benedictine Order, here around 529.
Both families left Italy in 1958, but took with them their love of traditional cooking which reflected the meals of shepherds and farmers, which were made from a few ingredients, prepared simply.
The family settled in the UK in 1959, and after a number of food inspired ventures, settled on the idea of developing a local delicatessen that would remind them of their local essential shops from home. And so, Valentina was born
